CAN A PERSON DONATE BLOOD AFTER TAKING THE LAST JAB OF COVID – 19 VACCINE

A person cannot donate blood for the next 28 days after taking the last dose of covid 19 vaccine. This report was given by the National Blood Transfusion Council.

The deferral criteria for blood donation for post covid-19 vaccine was finalized and approved  in the 30th meeting of the governing body of the NBTC held on February 17.

“28 days post vaccination deferral after the last dose of covid-19 vaccination irrespective of the type of the vaccine received” says the report. According to the order, the donor has to wait for 28 days after taking the last dose. In short, the vaccinated person cannot donate for nearly 56 days after taking the first dose.

The antibodies fighting against the virus will be generated only after two weeks soon after the innoculation of second dose.

Hence, the people are asked not to donate blood soon after taking the second dose and to wait till 28 days for successful immunization.
