Mr. Phurba Whangyal Lama, 26, working as a crew member in Air India, was all set for his flight to Kazakhastan under the Vande Bharat Mission, on June 2, 2020. This mission launched by the Indian government, is the biggest evacuation exercise to bring back Indian citizens stuck abroad due to the pandemic and following lockdowns. As per government rules, he got himself tested for COVID-19 a day prior. Shocked enough by the results which stated POSITIVE, he called up his roommate and brother, Mr. Allen Edwin Rai, who was at that time in his hometown Darjeeling and is working diligently with Anti Corona Task Force( Pandemic Force) since the beginning without a break. Phurba was living in their apartment in Mahipalpur, Delhi all alone for the past 3 months but never felt this helpless before.
As a concerned brother, he also informed the officials that he stayed with his sister and brother-in-law in Safdarjung for 2 days, from 28-30 May.
He was asked to not go on the flight and stay under home quarantine, condition that someone was along to take care of him, which unfortunately was not possible, he was therefore asked to stay in isolation ward in YMCA, Delhi, effective from June 2. As anyone would be, he was scared and panicky on hearing these instructions.
When no other solutions were visible, Allen called Dr. Krishan Kumar, National Conveyer of Anti Corona Task Force( Pandemic Force). He was kind enough to offer his own home for the stay while he also talked to Phurba to calm him down. But fortunately, a sigh of relief came when Air India offered him a room in their guest house in RK Puram for it. Along with this relief, they came up with another major issue of food. Air India was only providing breakfast, leaving it on Phurba to arrange for lunch and dinner. Here came in another saviour from Anti Corona Task Force( Pandemic Force), Mr. Pramod Joshi, who provided food and all other necessary items like water boiler, fruits, biscuits and everything.
Mr. Krishan also helped in arranging tests for his sister and brother-in-law, who were in the mean time asked to self-quarantine at their home itself. It was a great relief for the family when they were found to be negative for the virus.
After 14 days of staying in RK Puram, Phurba was tested again and came out to be negative. He was overwhelmed with joy and filled with gratitude towards Mr. Krishan and the Anti Corona Task Force( Pandemic Force) team, obviously his brother and Air India, who were his supporting pillars and his helping hands in this time of trouble.
